Once seeing her video where she sang an acoustic piano version of Beyoncé's 'Sweet Dreams', I instantly became a fan of Tiffany Eugenio. When I saw her acoustic guitar version of my favorite J. Holiday's 'Suffocate', I fell in love with her! Looking at her more closely gave me a thought that she probably is a Filipina.
Search engines won't give enough information yet but some websites do confirm that she indeed is a Filipina who grew up in Canada.
I could personally say that Tiffany knows what real music is all about. Hers is accessible. Listening to her gives you an idea that a pure talent doesn't have to show off some skin, and must I say, too much. Instead, musical elements must be evident for someone to be recognized as a certified musical artist. Some of these elements include the voice, tune, tone, rhythm, key, beat, dynamics, interval, modulation, progression and interpretation, among others. Such are quite evident in the way Tiffany delivers her music.
Ever heard of Auto-Tune? Well, it's acceptable if an artist has to use this audio processing device for creative reasons and only on some parts of a song. But as today's most pop singers and rappers use this to correct their tune and pitch from start to finish (or basically the whole thing!), I am indeed hopeful for the real artists to make it big, and I mean internationally.
And so, we've come to these big international real artists. And guess what? Some of them are proud Filipinos. Bruno Mars, Apl de Ap, Nicole Scherzinger, Charice Pempengco, Vanessa Hudgens, Arnel Pineda have been making it huge worldwide, lifting the Pinoy pride in us. Lately, there are still those finding their way up by the names of Maria Aragon and Thia Megia, a recent American Idol runner-up and is just one of our many fellow Pinoys who had left a good mark in the competition. Of course, I should mention Ms. Lea Salonga from the Broadway and a Tony winner at the age of 20, and my personal favorite Billy Crawford, a popular R&B artist in Europe.
I'll be looking forward to seeing Tiffany in the same place where these people are. I'll leave you with some of her YouTube videos and it's for you to find out why someone would leave a comment like "Why is Miley Cyrus rich and famous and she's not?!"
